Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Friday at the introductory press conference for new head coach David Culley that he doesn’t want to trade quarterback Deshaun Watson.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Caserio said the Texans have “zero interest” in parting ways with the three-time Pro Bowler.

Per Wilson, Caserio added: “Organizationally, [we] want to reiterate our commitment to Deshaun Watson.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Watson has asked the Texans to trade him. Schefter previously reported that Watson was not happy that the organization did not consult him before hiring Caserio as GM.

With regard to Watson, Caserio added: “The best way you handle relationships is to communicate and be honest and forthright.”

He also said: “We’re going to do the right thing by people because that’s what we believe in.”

The Texans are under no immediate obligation to trade the 25-year-old quarterback since he is under contract through 2025 after signing a four-year contract extension in September.

Watson could attempt to force the Texans’ hand by holding out and refusing to play, although he would be forfeiting a significant amount of money in that scenario, as he is scheduled to make $10.5 million next season before his salary jumps to $35 million in 2022.

Although the Texans have publicly said that they have no plans or desire to trade Watson, SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano provided some recent NFL examples to show that doesn’t necessarily mean a trade won’t happen:

If Houston does trade Watson, it will represent a massive loss for the franchise, as he is arguably a top-five quarterback in the NFL.

The Texans went only 4-12 last season, but Watson was the least of the team’s problems, as he completed 70.2 percent of his passes for an NFL-best 4,823 yards to go along with 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. He also rushed for 444 yards and three scores.

Watson is just getting ready to enter his prime and has already led the Texans to the playoffs twice in four NFL seasons, meaning any team with the slightest need at quarterback will likely line up in hopes of acquiring the former Clemson standout.

That may not be the ideal conclusion for Houston, but if the Texans do trade him, they will likely land a massive package of draft picks in return.

Stock trading app Trade Republic expands to France

Stock trading app Trade Republic expands to France

German startup Trade Republic is rolling out its app and service in France this week. This is a significant expansion move as Trade Republic has only been available in Germany and Austria so far.

Trade Republic lets you buy and sell shares or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from your phone with low, transparent fees. The company charges €1 ($1.21) in fees per order, whether you’re buying a single share worth €100 or allocating €10,000 of your savings on an ETF. The company promises that it doesn’t add any commission on top of that €1.

The startup lets you buy European shares as well as stock in Asian or American companies. Overall, there are 7,500 shares and ETFs available in the app. While the service is relatively new, Trade Republic has been working on its infrastructure for several years.

Behind the scenes, the company has partnered with Solarisbank, a German banking-as-a-service platform regulated by German authorities. It means that your deposits are covered up to €100,000 ($121,000) in case of bankruptcy. When you’re submitting an order, Trade Republic works with LS Exchange and HSBC Transaction Services to handle those shares.

Trade Republic wants to position itself differently from Robinhood. The company thinks there are currently two options when it comes to trading.

You can open a trading account with your bank or a legacy broker, but they’ll charge a lot of money. Or you can use a mobile-first broker, but they’ll push you toward risky assets and day trading. And as we’ve seen this week with the GameStop saga, the second option can lead to some backlash.

Trade Republic is promoting a third way — low fees and low risk. The company wants to promote savings plans, for instance. Those plans let you buy shares progressively, which should protect users against volatility.

The company raised a €62 million funding round ($75.22 million at today’s rate) last year. The Series B round was co-led by Accel and Founders Fund.

As for French users, don’t forget that you have to declare that you have a foreign bank account when you file your taxes. Foreign brokers also don’t necessarily send information to tax authorities to pre-fill your tax reports. But if you’re fine with that, Trade Republic is most likely cheaper than your bank.

Lakers’ Anthony Davis: Nets Are Biggest Threat to LA After James Harden Trade

The Western Conference is loaded with challengers to the Los Angeles Lakers, but Anthony Davis thinks an Eastern Conference contender is their biggest threat to repeat as NBA champions.

In an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, the Lakers star said the addition of James Harden makes the Brooklyn Nets “a threat” to beat them because “they’re a team that can score at will” (starts at 3:40 mark):

1-on-1 with Anthony Davis: AD is going to be in a Super Bowl ad with Serena Williams, Peyton Manning & Jimmy Butler – and that’s just his plans for next weekend. Great conversation about happiness, the cost of trying to repeat, and the team he thinks is most in the Lakers’ way: https://t.co/zqcnILdJtd

Brooklyn is still working out the kinks as Harden gets acclimated to playing alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Since losing consecutive games to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Nets have won three straight games and are a season-high four games over .500 (12-8). They have scored at least 113 points in six of seven games since Harden’s debut Jan. 16 with a 5-2 record.

The Lakers have hit their first rough patch of the season with back-to-back losses for the first time since August. They’re the No. 3 seed in the West with a 14-6 record behind the Utah Jazz (14-4) and Los Angeles Clippers (14-5).

Despite this bump in the road, the Lakers look like one of the best teams in the league. They lead the NBA in defensive rating (104.9) and are tied for second in net rating (plus-8.0).

Davis is having another terrific season playing alongside LeBron James. The seven-time All-Star ranks second on the Lakers with 21.9 points per game on 52.2 percent shooting.
