Coronavirus Vaccine Tracker

Coronavirus Vaccine Tracker

PHASE 3

In October, the company announced that they had finished recruiting all 30,000 participants in the study, including 7,000 people 65 years or older. Moderna’s trial protocol, which the company shared in September, indicates they will wait until a significant number of volunteers become sick before seeing how many of them were vaccinated. They also observe whether any participants suffer adverse events, investigating any serious cases to see if the vaccine was the cause or just a coincidence. If their results meet the FDA’s benchmarks, Moderna could potentially apply for an emergency use authorization by the end of 2020.

On the business side, Moderna lost a patent dispute in July over some of their vaccine technology. The following month, the company stated that it could not be certain it was the first to make the inventions claimed in their patents, including its coronavirus vaccine. Meanwhile, the company has entered deals with several countries to supply the vaccine if it’s approved. On Aug. 11, the United States government awarded the company an additional $1.5 billion in exchange for 100 million doses if the vaccine proves safe and effective. Moderna has made similar deals with Canada, Japan, and Qatar.
Updated Oct. 29

PHASE 2 PHASE 3 COMBINED PHASES

In September, Dr. Albert Bourla, the chief executive of Pfizer, said the Phase 3 trial would deliver enough results as soon as October to show if the vaccine worked or not. President Trump touted their progress, hinting that a vaccine would be available before the election. But on Oct. 27, Dr. Bourla announced that the volunteers in the trial had yet to experience enough cases of Covid-19 to determine if the vaccines work.

Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine, like almost all the others in clinical trials, requires two doses. In the summer, the companies began inking deals to deliver large orders to countries around the world. The Trump administration awarded a $1.9 billion contract in July for 100 million doses to be delivered by December and the option to acquire 500 million more doses. Meanwhile, Japan made a deal for 120 million doses, and the European Union arranged to purchase 200 million doses. If their vaccine is authorized, Pfizer and BioNTech expect to manufacture over 1.3 billion doses of their vaccine worldwide by the end of 2021.

Getting the vaccine from the factory to people’s arms could pose some major challenges. Like Moderna’s vaccine, Pfizer and BioNTech’s preparation is based on mRNA, which falls apart unless it’s kept in a deep freeze. As a result, the vaccine will have to be chilled to minus 80 degrees Celsius (minus 112 degrees Fahrenheit) until it’s ready to be injected.
Updated Oct. 27

PHASE 2

In a September interview, the chief executive of CureVac said that the company would make 100 million doses by the end of 2020 and hoped to gain approval some time in 2021. CureVac has collaborated with Elon Musk’s company Tesla on creating mRNA “micro-factories,” which could potentially be deployed around the world to make billions of doses of the vaccine.
Updated Nov. 2

On Aug. 11, President Vladimir V. Putin announced that a Russian health care regulator had approved the vaccine, renamed Sputnik V, before Phase 3 trials had even begun. Vaccine experts decried the move as risky, and Russia later walked back the announcement, saying that the approval was a “conditional registration certificate,” which would depend on positive results from Phase 3 trials. Those trials, initially planned for just 2,000 volunteers, were expanded to 40,000. In addition to Russia, volunteers were recruited in Belarus, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. On Oct. 17, a Phase 2/3 trial was launched in India.

On Sept. 4, three weeks after Putin’s announcement, Gamaleya researchers published the results of their Phase 1/2 trial. In a small study, they found that Sputnik yielded antibodies to the coronavirus and mild side effects. Meanwhile, Russia negotiated agreements to supply the vaccine to countries including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and India.

PHASE 3

In August, the federal government agreed to pay $1 billion for 100 million doses if the vaccine is approved. The European Union reached a similar deal on Oct. 8 for 200 million doses. The company is aiming for production of at least a billion doses in 2021.

On Oct. 12, Johnson & Johnson announced it put its trial on pause to investigate an adverse reaction in a volunteer. The trial resumed eleven days later. Despite the delay, the company expects to get results by the end of the year.
Updated Oct. 24

PHASE 2 PHASE 3 COMBINED PHASES

In August the European Union reached an agreement for AstraZeneca to deliver 400 million doses if the trials yield positive results. The company has said their total manufacturing capacity for the vaccine, if approved, stands at two billion doses. India’s Serum Institute has already produced millions of doses to be used in trials.

On Sept. 6, AstraZeneca halted global trials of the vaccine to investigate one volunteer, who developed a form of inflammation called transverse myelitis. Within a week, the trials began in all countries except the United States. Meanwhile, a newspaper in Brazil reported on Oct. 21 that a volunteer in the trial there died of Covid-19. While AstraZeneca would not comment on the case, the trial was not paused, which led outside experts to conclude that the volunteer must have received a placebo. On Oct. 23, the F.D.A. authorized the restart of the trial. The C.E.O. of AstraZeneca said in a Nov. 5 interview with Bloomberg that the company expected results from their trial by the end of December.
Updated Nov. 6

PHASE 1

When Vaxart gave the pill mice, they produced antibodies against the coronavirus. Mice don’t suffer symptoms of Covid-19, however, so the researchers then switched to hamsters, which do. In an unpublished study, they found that the vaccine protected hamsters from two important symptoms of the disease: weight loss and swollen lungs. In October, the company began giving the pill to volunteers in a Phase 1 clinical trial.

Although none of Vaxart’s vaccines have yet been licensed, the company’s stock price increased 3,600 percent in the first half of 2020. In June, The New York Times reported, a hedge fund that partly controlled the company sold off most of its shares, netting over $200 million in profits. In the wake of that reporting, the Department of Justice began investigating the company, while a number of shareholder lawsuits were brought against Vaxart, its executives and its board.
Updated Oct. 15

PHASE 3

After getting promising results from preliminary studies in monkeys and humans, Novavax launched a Phase 2 trial in South Africa in August. The blinded, placebo-controlled trial on 2,900 people will measure not just the safety of the vaccine but its efficacy. The following month, Novavax launched a Phase 3 trial enrolling up to 15,000 volunteers in the United Kingdom. It could potentially deliver results by the start of 2021. A larger Phase 3 trial is in development to launch in the United States by the end of November.

In September Novavax reached an agreement with the Serum Institute of India, a major vaccine manufacturer, that they said would enable them to produce as many as 2 billion doses a year. If the trials succeed, Novavax expects to deliver 100 million doses for use in the United States by the first quarter of 2021. On Nov. 4 they announced another agreement to deliver 40 million doses to Australia.
Updated Nov. 6

PHASE 1 PHASE 2 COMBINED PHASES

Starting before their clinical trials began, Sanofi negotiated several major deals to supply the vaccine, including a $2.1 billion agreement with the United States to provide 100 million doses. On Sept. 18 they closed another deal with the European Union for 300 million doses for an unspecified amount, and later reached an agreement with Canada for up to 72 million doses. In addition, Sanofi agreed to provide 200 million doses to COVAX, an international collaboration to deliver the vaccine equitably across the world. They have plans to make up to one billion doses in 2021.
Updated Oct. 28

PHASE 1

Reuters reported that the Chinese government gave the Sinovac vaccine an emergency approval for limited use in July. In October, authorities in the eastern Chinese city of Jiaxing announced they were giving CoronVac to people in relatively high-risk jobs, including medical workers, port inspectors and public service personnel.

Meanwhile, Sinovac has been preparing to manufacture the vaccine for global distribution, reaching an agreement to supply Indonesia with at least 40 million doses by March 2021. In September, Yin Weidong, the CEO of Sinovac, said the company planned on worldwide distribution of the vaccine in early 2021 — including the United States.

7 Tips to Making a Long Distance Relationship Work: Relationship Guides

7 Tips to Making a Long Distance Relationship Work: Relationship Guides

There are rough times for people who are in relationships, BUT here are 7 Tips to Making a Long Distance Relationship Work!

Ever since the outbreak started, couples have been forced into long-distance relationships. And even before the explosion happened, people have always been running under the assumption that long-distance relationships don’t work out well that often.

However, that shouldn’t discourage you nor deter you from being in one. Making long-distance relationships work isn’t some magical secret that can only be done by a select few. All it needs is some determination and effort!

Here are seven tips to help you and the love of your life make long-distance work!

Being on the same page when you’re in a relationship with someone is essential. Misunderstandings are a relationship’s worst enemy, and the way you combat that is by being on the same page in most cases.

Of course, we’re not saying that you, too, should agree on everything in your life. However, if you at least know that they have in mind and try to set up a few boundaries, it’ll help your relationship stay healthy even though you’re not physically with each other.

Committing yourself to an LDR is not taboo that’ll get you into trouble, nor is it against norms – however, it does take at least some effort. So before you dive into it, think about your end goal and try discussing it with your partner. If you want a fun fling that’ll last you a few months, then go ahead! However, if you’re going to have a deep and emotional long-term relationship, you probably want to discuss it with your partner. Talk about all the possibilities if ever it does work out and start from there.

Do you see a future with them? Are they willing to move in with one another? That way, you can decide if you want to stay or cut your losses before you end up wasting time and crying at 3 am beside a tub of ice cream.

Technology is a beautiful creation! It allows us to connect with our loved ones instantly through a quick call or text. Make sure to utilize this fact and go on regular online dates with your partner!

Find a spot that compliments you, have good lighting and eat together, talk, or even hop on a screen share and watch a movie together through Netflix! The opportunities are endless, and your dates can be a great way to establish your bond further and know more about each other.

Communication is important. Ensure that they know what your schedule is for the day and make sure to know theirs. That way, you’d understand why they aren’t responding to your calls and messages, and you don’t have any misunderstandings. This also lets you know when both of you are free to hang out and talk!

As mushy and cliche as it sounds, starting the day off with a good morning text and ending it by talking to them and asking them about their day, can deepen your bond. There are times when your schedule will be incredibly hectic, and you can’t talk to them for most of the morning and afternoon, but if you still do this, you can again feel connected.

Care Packages And Cute Letters

This one is optional but will help make your partner feel fuzzy and warm inside. Sending them cute handwritten letters about how much you love them or care packages with pictures of you and a few more goodies can affirm them. This is a way you can show your partner that you love them despite not physically with them!

In any relationship, LDR or not, there are going to be naysayers and negativity thrown at you. Please don’t listen to what other people are saying about your relationship unless it makes sense. Long-distance relationships can work, and it all depends on how committed you are to making it work.

When you’re listening to the negative things that people say won’t help you in any form.

Dua Lipa says women in the music industry have to work harder to be taken seriously - Music News - ABC News Radio

Dua Lipa says women in the music industry have to work harder to be taken seriously – Music News – ABC News Radio

Mark Metcalfe/Getty ImagesDespite earning two Grammy Awards and her song “Don’t Start Now” spending all of 2020 on the Billboard charts, Dua Lipa says she still has to fight to be taken seriously in the music industry.

In a candid discussion with Attitude magazine, the 25-year-old singer detailed why it still feels like a battle to be heard and treated equally among her peers.

“That’s just being a woman in the industry,” Lipa pointed out. “A lot of people see it, particularly in pop music, that you’re manufactured or whatever, so you have this underlying pressure or anxiety to constantly prove [yourself] to people, especially when you write your own lyrics.”

The “New Rules” artist reflected on her past experiences when recording her eponymous debut album, explaining, “When I would go into the studio sessions, I felt like I needed to prove to the people I was going in the room with that I could write and that I do this myself and that I am an artist.”

“I’m not just going to sit there in the room and wait for somebody to write a song for me,” she defiantly continued. “You have to work a little bit harder to be taken seriously.”

Lipa says the sexism goes beyond the recording studio, too.

“You’re on a music video and the director goes, ‘I definitely think you need to wear a skirt’ because someone wants to see, you know, ‘UK’s pop star in a cute outfit.’ I’m like, ‘Well, I’m going to wear trousers because it’s f***ing freezing,'” she shrugged. “I know how to stand my ground and hold it down.”

Lipa stressed that female artists have to advocate for themselves, adding, “It creates maybe a weird energy, but it’s something that has to be said and addressed.”
